YOU CAN ACCURATELY AND EASILY COMPLY WITH THE MANUFACTURERS SERVICE BULLETINS RELATIVE TO FUEL PRESSURES, FLOW, AND TURBO COMPONENTS.

PORTA-TEST IS THE ONLY APPROVED TESTING UNIT AVAILABLE FOR THE CALIBRATION OF FUEL INJECTION SYSTEMS.  AS A RESULT, YOU CAN QUICKLY PERFORM FUEL METERING MAINTENANCE TO IMPROVE THE SERVICE LIFE, PERFORMANCE AND DEPENDABILITY OF ENGINES EQUIPPED WITH CONTINENTAL FUEL INJECTION SYSTEMS.

ACTUAL FLOW METER READINGS PROVIDE EXACT INDICATION OF ENGINE FUEL CONSUMPTION AS WELL AS PRESSURE.  INDICATIONS COVERING UNMETERED AND METERED FUEL PRESSURE, TURBOCHARGER UPPER DECK AND LOWER DECK PRESSURES CAN BE EASILY CHECKED FOR CORRECT OPERATION.  ALL TROUBLESHOOTING CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND WITHOUT REMOVING COMPONENTS TO SAVE VALUABLE MAN HOURS AND DOWNTIME.  COMPLETE OPERATOR'S MANUAL CONTAINS NECESSARY SPECIFICATIONS AND TROUBLESHOOTING.

THE 20 ATM CONSISTS ESSENTIALLY OF A PATENTED HIGH-ACCURACY FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE TO MEASURE BOTH METERED AND UNMETERED FUEL PRESSURE;  TWO FLOWMETERS, ONE WITH A RANGE TO COVER   IDLING - LOW FLOW- AND THE OTHER TO COVER POWER SETTINGS;  A DUAL ABSOLUTE PRESSURE GAUGE INDICATES MAINIFOLD AND TURBO SISCHARGE OPERATIONS;  AND THE APPROPRIATE VALVES, HOSES, AND FITTINGS.  TO USE THE PORTA TEST, INSTALL IT IN THE SYSTEM ACCORDING TO THE DIAGRAM IN FIG. 3

THE TELEDYNE CONTINENTAL FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM USES A SPECIAL FUEL PUMP TO PROVIDE LOW UNMETERED FUEL PRESSURE FOR LOW SPEED OPERATION AND HIGH UNMETERED FUEL PRESSURE FOR TAKE-OFF AND CRUISE OPERATION. EXCEPT FOR SOME OF THE EARLIER UNMODIFIED PUMPS, THERE ARE TWO ADJUSTMENTS-- A RELIEF VALVE ADJUSTS THE LOW PRESSURE , AND AN ORIFICE CONTROLS THE HIGH UNMETERED PRESSURE. WE ALL KNOW THE PROBLEMS IT IS POSSIBLE TO RUN INTO WHEN WE TRY TO GET THESE PRESSURES JUST RIGHT, AND THE UNNECCESARY COMPONENT CHANGES SOMETIMES MADE TO CORRECT ROUGH IDLING, DYING ON ROLL-OUT, OR UNEVEN CONTROL POSITIONS FOR TWINS.


WITH THE PORTA-TEST INSTALLED IN THE SYSTEM, THERE IS NO MORE GUESSWORK ABOUT WHICH UNIT IS DEFECTIVE OR OUT OF ADJUSTMENT. SOME OF THE MORE COMMON PROBLEMS ARE CLEARLY COVERED IN THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL WHICH ACCOMPANIES THE TESTER. FOR INSTANCE, WHEN-

ENGINE WILL NOT RUN WITHOUT BOOST PUMP ON: THE TESTER CAN SHOW IF THE PROBLEM IS A DEFECTIVE PUMP OR A LOOSE FUEL INLET AT THE PUMP.

IMPROPER FUEL PRESSURE-FLUCTUATES: BY READING THE METERED FUEL PRESSURE AND FUEL FLOW, YOU CAN CHECK THE MANIFOLD VALVE AND ALL OF THE METERED FUEL PRESSURE CONNECTIONS AND CORRECT THE DEFECT.

.POOR ACCELERATION: THE IS NORMALLY CAUSED BY IMPROPER FUEL FLOW, AND THE TESTER WILL CHECK OUT BOTH THE METERED AND UNMETERED FUEL FLOWS; BY THE USE OF A SET OF MASTER NOZZLES IT CAN BE DETERMINED IF THE NOZZLES IN THE ENGINE ARE OF THE PROPER SIZE.

SLOW SHUT-DOWN TIME: THE TESTER WILL ALLOW YOU TO DETERMINE IF THE MIXTURE CONTROL IS LEAKING INTERNALLY.

ENGINE RUNS ROUGH IN IDLE AND OFF-IDLE CONDITIONS, YET HAS THE PROPER FLOW AND PRESSURE: THIS CAN BE CAUSED BY IMPROPER NOZZLE CALIBRATION OR A MIXED SET OF NOZZLES. THE USE OF CALIBRATED MASTER NOZZLES WITH ACCURATE FLOW AND MEASUREMENT WILL PINPOINT THE TROUBLE.

EXCESSIVE FUEL PRESSURE ON TAKE-OFF: THIS CAN BE CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE PUMP ANEROID OR BY AN OUT OF ADJUSTMENT PRESSURE LIMITER.

COCKPIT FLOW INDICATION IS OVER THE RED LINE, BUT CHECKS OUT OK ON A TESTER: THIS INDICATES THE THE NOZZLES ARE EITHER TOO LEAN OR THE MANIFOLD VALVE IS DEFECTIVE THE PATENTED MASTER GAUGE CAN BE REFERENCED TO TURBO DISCHARGE PRESSURE IN THE METERED POSITION, ALLOWING YOU TO CHECK THE CALIBRATION OF THE INSTALLED FUEL FLOW INDICATOR.


AN INCORRECT MANIFOLD VALVE OR NOZZLES OR IMPROPERLY ADJUSTED UNMETERED OR METERED FUEL PRESSURES CAN CREATE A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS. THESE INCLUDE A DIFFERENCE IN THE COCKPIT FLOW METER INDICATIONS, IMPROPER MANIFOLD PRESSURE INDICATIONS, OR THE ENGINE OPERATING TO RICH OR TOO LEAN AT CRUISE POWER BUT OK AT IDLE AND FULL R.P.M.
